Marilyn Elaine Wohltman (Kretkowski)
August 28, 1937 - October 12, 2017
Marilyn Wohltman, 80, passed away unexpectedly on October 12, 2017. Marilyn was born on August 28, 1937 in Jersey City, NJ to Mary and Charles Kretkowski. She graduated from Saint Dominic’s Academy and worked as a legal receptionist at the law firm of Cahill Gordon in New York City. She later married to John William Wohltman, Jr. and traveled the world with John and her children Melissa, Laura, and Mark as part of an Air Force family. At the age of 50, Marilyn earned her bachelors degree in sociology from The College of Staten Island and worked to help those suffering from mental illness.
Marilyn was a warm, intelligent, and vivacious woman who loved to travel, sing, read, and do crossword puzzles. She had an infectious smile and a joyful laugh, and throughout many struggles in her life she never lost her sense of humor or ability to laugh at herself. Her resilience, strength, and love for her family will be remembered by all who knew her.
She is survived by her daughter Melissa Wohltman, son Mark Wohltman, grandson Bailey Wohltman, brother Ronald Kretkowski (Vicky), sister Maria Manchester (Dana), and many nieces and nephews.
A private memorial service will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the National Alliance on Mental Illness.
