It is with heavy heart and great sadness that we announce the passing of Martha J Baca on New Year's Eve 2022 following a lengthy illness.
Martha was born in Durango Colorado along with her twin sister Margaret, to Celia and William C. Baca on Father's Day, June 14th 1948.
Martha graduated from Ignacio High School & shortly thereafter moved to Santa Fe NM, where she made her home & retired from employment with the State of New Mexico. Although she never forgot her roots growing up in Southern Colorado under the doting care of her beloved maternal grandparents Blas & Selina Salazar, she loved the diverse culture & welcoming atmosphere of her adopted state, New Mexico, esp. Santa Fe. There she was able to develop, expand & share her rich knowledge of her Hispanic & Indigenous background. After retirement, Martha enjoyed traveling, especially to her beloved Mazatlán.
She was preceded in death by her beloved grandparents Blas & Selina Salazar; her parents Celia & William Baca; baby sister Alice, baby brother Vince; Uncle's Adonais, Flavio, & John Salazar; beloved nephews Edward Cordova, Julian Cordova, & Javier Rodriguez; & niece Celeste Benavides.
She is survived by her sisters Lydia Cordova, twin Sister Margaret Rodriguez, & Sally Urioste as well as numerous nephews, nieces and lots of loving cousins. Also, best friends Jane Gabaldon, Patricia Alexandre & loving caregivers Pamela Jaramillo, and Rose Ortiz.
