Mary Ann Garcia

Mary Ann Garcia passed away February 4, 2025 with her son, Aaron and daughter in law, Valerie at her side.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Rufus "Sonny" Garcia; her grandparents, Carlos and Ana Gonzales; parents Joe and Marie Lopez; brothers Joe, Arthur, Michael and Patrick Lopez and wife Monica.

Mary Ann is survived by her son, Aaron and wife Valerie; grandsons Gabriel, Brandon, Isiah and Ean Garcia and Gino and Rico Landavazo; brother Tony Lopez; sister Rosalie Valdez and husband Frank; stepdaughters Roberta Vandersommen and Paula Schmidke; her extended family in New Mexico and Colorado; and many cherished friends.

After graduating high school, she lived as a Dominican Nun for 7 years, known as Sister Miranda. Mary Ann left the convent to care for her beloved grandmother, who was gravely ill. She moved back to Santa Fe after Ana's passing. Mary Ann met the love of her life and was married. Rufus and Mary Ann lived in love until Rufus' passing in 1982. She dedicated her life to raising Aaron in his younger years. Mary Ann worked at Share Your Care in Albuquerque and Open Hands in Santa Fe, caring for the elderly. Her later years were spent enjoying her grandchildren and caring for her pets.

Mary Ann brought laughter and love to everybody that she encountered. She always had a corny joke or funny story to share. Her special love for the elderly, small children and animals made the world a better place.

You will be forever in our hearts and will never be forgotten, Mary Ann. We love you. 

Services are as follows:

Tuesday, February 18, 2025, 6:00pm Rosary at Kiva Chapel, Rivera Funeral Home

Wednesday, February 19, 2025, Rosary at 9:30am at Santa Maria de la Paz Catholic Church with mass to follow at 10:00am.

Burial following mass at Rosario Cemetery.
