Mary Alice Vigil

d. June 1, 2016

It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of Mary Alice (Sanchez) Vigil, the beloved matriarch of our family. She passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family June 1, 2016. Mary Alice led an inspiring life. She was a woman who was loved and admired by all her family and friends. She was always warm and kind to all she met. She was born in Santa Fe, met her husband Orlando, and together they moved to San Diego to start their family. They were blessed with three sons: Paul, Chris and Steve. Eventually the call of home was too great and they moved back to Santa Fe where they finished raising their sons. Mary Alice was known for her warmth, generosity and optimism. She loved gardening and reading, and in her earlier years was an avid bowler. Her greatest love was caring for her family, friends, and most of all her grandchildren. They brought her immense joy, and it was mutual. A loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister and aunt, she will be missed by all. Mary Alice was preceded by her parents Aquilino and Dolores (Valdez) Sanchez and her brother Bernard, and godson Joey Sanchez. She is survived by her husband, Orlando Vigil, whom she loved dearly, their sons: Paul Vigil and Meredy Baldridge, Christopher and Isabel, children: Daniel, Sonia, and Christopher Matteo, Steve and Ellie, children: Enzo and Orion. Brothers and sisters: Phil, Gilbert and Lourdes, Joe, J.A. and Maida, Wilfred and Bessie, Larry and Stella, Cecilia O’Neil, Cleo and Harold Holt, Geraldine, and Theresa and Mike Louton. In-laws Dorothy and Joe Lopez, Mabel Leyba, Gaiby Lucero, Roberta Vigil. God children: Yolanda Wedow, Annette Sanchez, Michael Sanchez, Elizabeth Friedenstein, Aileen Leyba, Michelle Lucero Acunya. Nieces and nephews, too numerous to name, but loved greatly. A viewing will be held at Rivera’s Funeral Home at 2:00-4:00pm on Sunday, June 5th, with a rosary to follow. A funeral mass will be held at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church at 11:00am on Friday, June 10th, followed by burial at the Santa Fe National Cemetery.
