Mary Daugherty

January 27, 1934 — January 5, 2016

Mary Scott "Scottie" Daugherty died at home in Santa Fe, NM on January 5. Scottie was born in Houston, Texas on January 27, 1934. She was a member of the first graduating class at St. John's School in Houston. Author of Know the Mystery: For if That Which You Seek You Find Not Within Yourself You Will Never Find it Without, Scottie was a lifelong pro-choice and women's reproductive health rights advocate. For several years in the 70s, she was a counselor at Reproductive Services in San Antonio, Texas. She received her Master’s Degree from Goddard Cambridge Graduate School for Social Change in 1977. She taught Women's Studies at Stephens College in Missouri in 1985. Scottie's beloved GC ("Great Car", a first generation Toyota Prius) is being donated to her local NPR station. Scottie was a beloved hub of her local social network. She remained active in issues of women’s rights and social justice, and was a founding member of the Santa Fe-famous Escalante St. Annual Garage Sales, just one of many ways that she continued to help build community and connect people right up until the end. Scottie's family asks that you support your local Planned Parenthood in her memory.
