Mary Ellen Jewell, 95, of Cochiti Lake, NM, passed away peacefully Saturday morning, March 11, 2017. Mary Ellen was a vibrant and caring woman, wife, aunt and mother. Born in Cleveland, Ohio, she graduated from Allegheny College and served in the U.S. Navy during WWII. She married Lawrence L. Jewell, raising their five lively children in East Cleveland, Ohio. As the children grew older, she completed her Masters in Library Science at Case Western Reserve University and worked as a librarian. Mary Ellen and Larry fell in love with the Land of Enchantment and retired to Cochiti Lake, New Mexico in 1986. Mary Ellen was preceded in death by her devoted husband, Lawrence; her parents, Marjorie and Clifford Fuller, and her brother, Carl Fuller. She is survived by her daughter, Karen Jewell-Kett (David), and her sons Stephen (Calryn), Christopher, Douglas, and James; along with nieces, nephews, and dear friends. Known for her impish smile and quick wit, Mary Ellen was beloved of all she met and will be dearly missed. A Celebration of Mary Ellen’s Life will be held Wednesday, March 22, at 2:00 pm at Kingston Residence of Santa Fe, 2400 Legacy Court, in the Angelfire room. A private service will also be held at a later date in Cleveland, Ohio.
