Maria F Atencio

Mary Frances “Maria” Atencio passed on to the next life on July 1, 2018, at home surrounded by her friends and family. She was 63 years old. Maria earned an Associate degree in Early Childhood Development at the Santa Fe Community College in 1992. She worked many years for the New Mexico Department of Health as a social worker. She recently retired in November 2017. A member of a prominent restaurateur family from Espanola, she worked much of her life at El Paragua Restaurant Maria loved to shop and travel, but most of all her life was devoted to her unwavering faith in the Lord, Jesus Christ. She spent much of her time praying and studying Scripture. Maria is survived by her two children and nine grandchildren, Elisa Trujillo and her children, Rheanna, Estevan, and Alijah. Mario Atencio and wife Crystal and their children, Aramea, Dorino, Eleiana, Florian, Genesio, and Zuriel. Additionally, Maria leaves her siblings, David Bouvet and wife Anne, Lorenzo Atencio and Yvonne, Dorothy Maestas, Olga Garcia, Cristobal Atencio and Marcella, Jose Atencio and Alicia, Angela Sanchez and James and Ralph Atencio and Julie. Maria is also survived by a sister-in-law, Diane Atencio and a myriad of nieces and nephews for whom their Tia Maria has been a positive role model. Other survivors include her aunt and uncles Andres Torres, Clara Torres Pedroza, Apolinar Torres, and many cousins and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Luis and Frances Torres Atencio, brother Pedro Atencio, a niece Anna Atencio, a nephew Rafael Atencio, brother-in-law Eugene Garcia and an infant sister Anna Marie. Funeral services will be held on Monday, July 9, 2017 at 10AM at the New Mexico College of Fine Arts Building, 921 N Paseo De Onate, Española, NM 87532.
