Mary Angela Herrera Loving wife, mother, sister, and auntie, 83 years of age, passed on Sunday May 5, 2024, at St. Vicent Hospital.
Jeremiah 30:17-For I will Restore you to health and I will heal you of your wounds “declares the Lord.”
Mary Angela was born January 8, 1941, in Las Vegas, NM to the late Benses and Epifania Medina. Preceded in death- brother Jose Ines Medina, sisters Cruzita M. Baros, and Rosario CdeBaca, sister-in-law Amelia, brothers-in-law Antonio Sena, Albert Sandoval, and Joseph Sanchez, and sister-in-law Betty Medina.
Graduated from Robertson High School-class of 1959, Bachelor of Art-NMHU 1971, and Master’s degree in Guidance and Counseling-NMHU 1985. Mary Angela started her career as a radio operator with the Las Vegas City Police and the New Mexico State Police District 2. Her career followed into the state level as the Planner, Director for the DARE program and the governor’s office in Santa Fe, NM. Most recently, Mary Angela was a dedicated member and State Officer for the Catholic Daughters Court Empress of the America’s #1796. She also served on the board as Secretary-Treasurer for the Tecolote Land Grant and did great work at the state and local levels for both the church and the community.
Mary Angela loved spending time with her family, laughing and always putting a smile on everyone’s face. She always thought of others. “To know her is to Love her.” Mary Angela is survived by her loving husband Jose I Herrera (Chato), her sons-Joseph Herrera (wife Novella), Eugene John Herrera, her daughter Maria Victoria Harris (husband Rich). Her grandchildren-Lisa Herrera Salazar (husband Michael), Anna Herrera, Lachlan Harris, Oliver Harris, and Maya Harris. Great-granddaughters-Michaela Russo. Siblings-Ted Medina and family, Juanita Sandoval and family, Josephine Sena and family, Ben Jr. and family, Antonia Flores (husband Cruz and family), Angelo Medina and family, and numerous nieces and nephews, which she loved, cherished, and cherished. Mary Angela had one special niece (Brenda Flores) she referred to her as “My angel on earth.”
Services are as follows; viewing at Rivera’s Funeral Home (417 Rodeo Rd, Santa Fe, NM 87505) On May 18 between 1-3 pm. and dinner to follow viewing (Grace Community Church Santa Fe) Rosay will be on May 25 at 10 am and Mass to follow at Our Lady of Sorrows, Las Vegas, NM. After Mass lunch will be held at Father George Center, Las Vegas NM. Family and friends who are unable to attend can view the Mass at oloslasvegas.org or Facbook-OLOS.LV.
