Mary Mayo

Mary R. Mayo, 91, of Tres Piedras went home to be with Jesus on November 15, 2016 with the sun shining and the birds singing. Mary loved the simple things in life, watching wildlife, birds and wild flowers. She was a great mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. She spent her life at her home in No Agua, NM, raising her 4 children, her cows, horses and dogs. Mary was a true “Rosie the Riveter”, she worked in the shipyards in Portland, OR as a welder during WWII, she worked at the perlite mine, for the Forest Service and as a rancher and farmer and she was a good cowgirl, a life well lived! Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Peter Mayo, her son Don Mayo, her parents, Van and Ollie Gibson, four brothers, Doc, Van, Jack and John Gibson. She is survived by her children, Mike (Elaine) Mayo, Kathy (Larry) Haston, Becky Mayo, grandchildren, Eddie Mayo, Michael (Julie) Mayo, Kim (David) Chalfant, Shane Haston, great-grandchildren, Riley and Ashley Mayo, hers sister, Kate Schofield and her nephews and nieces. In celebration of her life a memorial service will be held at 2 PM on Saturday, November 26, 2016 at the Seventh Day Adventist Church in Tres Piedras. In lieu of flowers the family asks for donations to be made in her name the Hospice Del Valle in Alamosa, Co or the Taos Hospice, Taos, NM. Arrangements by Rivera Family Funeral Home.
