MARY JEAN PORTER
December 26, 1947 -September 10, 2024.
Born to parents Marjorie and Eugene Brown on December 26th, 1947, in Seattle, Washington, Mary Porter was a woman of renowned kindness, brilliance, and humor.Raised in Modesto, California, with siblings Susan and Tommy, Mary moved to New Mexico in 1972, following the birth of her daughter, Jessica. She later spent several years living in Patzcuaro and San Miguel de Allende, Mexico, with her late husband, Jerry Porter (George Forbes Porter, Jr.). While she loved their time in Mexico, she promptly returned to Santa Fe to be closer to her family with the birth of her granddaughter, Sadie. Santa Fe would be her home until her passing on September 10, 2024.
Mary loved great food, music, and the arts. A vibrant part of the Canyon Road and Rail Yard communities, Mary lit farolitos each winter, a representation of her warmth, which all could feel as she opened her home to friends and family, both old and new. She found great community singing with choir groups throughout the years and volunteering with organizations like the Santa Fe Animal Shelter and Many Mothers.Mary is survived by her brother, Tommy; daughter and son-in-law, Jessica and Matt Webb; granddaughter, Sadie Marie Webb; step-son and daughter-in-law, Oscar Porter and Tamlin Horne; granddaughter, Stella Mae Porter; her nephew and family, Steven Riggs, wife Rachelle, and children Brock and Christine; along with a loving and beautiful extended family and friendships that will last beyond her lifetime.
