Mary Varela

March 9, 1943 — November 1, 2020

Mary Varela, 77 of Pecos, New Mexico passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 1, 2020, one day prior to her husband’s 34 year anniversary.

She is preceded in death by her parents Celestino and Josephine Quintana, her husband Euverio Varela, grandson Christopher Chief Varela, sisters, Antonia Tanuz and Eufemia Maynard and many other relatives she loved.

She is survived by her children Ron and wife Judy, Gina and her husband Frank, Daniel and wife Monica, and Sharon, her grandchildren Ron and wife Samantha, Adam and wife Shauna, E.J. and wife Marissa, Joey and wife Allison, her great grandchildren Mariah , Emma, Chase, Santi, Aubree, Daniel, Derek, Makayla, Ava, and Riley, her brother Ross Quintana, and wife Julia, and Andy Quintana and wife Theresa, and her sister-in -law Severiana Seb Varela, and many cousins, nieces, nephews, and close friends.

Mary’s life was full of the things that made her happiest, her family, friends, and ability to sing and share her voice with those she loved. She sang for many years with the St. Anthony’s church choir and also with beloved friends and family at gatherings, weddings, and other events. She especially loved playing with her great-grandchildren and watching them gro. Mary always had a big smile and a joke up her sleeve to share. She loved sitting by a warm fire even in the summer, making puzzles, music mix tapes and phone calls to check in with people. She spent many years dealing with multiple health issues but always found the time to welcome people into her home with love, and a taste of her homemade tortillas, famous red chili and beans.

She will be missed greatly, remembered kindly and loved always. The family would like to thank all those who have prayed for her over the years, and those who have called, visited and sent food, love and support in our time of loss and sorrow. Unfortunately die to the COVID-19 restrictions, but also in order to protect our family and friends from the virus, the family has decided to wait on holding religious services and burial for a later date when we can celebrate her life as she wanted, to be surrounded by family and friends with the music that she loved, in the church she adored in the beautiful village of Pecos. A Rosary wil be resided on Friday June 25th, 2021. Mass Friday June 25th, 2021 at 10:00 am will be held St. Anthony's Catholic church with Burial to follow at St. Anthony's Cemetery.
