Matilda Gurule

Matilda Mascareñas Gurule, 90, passed away peacefully on April 30, 2021. Mom was very loving, she was a wonderful combination of warmth, kindness, laughter, and love. She encouraged our dreams and praised our every success. Mom always talked to us about our Creator Jehovah God, the source of life and his son, Jesus Christ who paid the ransom for us to have a better life in paradise without sickness and death. She was baptized as one of Jehovah’s Witness in 1975. Her belief is that in the near future Jehovah God will usher in a new earth without tears, death and pain, Rev 21:4. She found comfort in God’s promise of the resurrection, found at John 5;28.

“Do not be amazed at this, for the hour is coming in which all those in the memorial tombs will hear his voice and come out.”

Matilda was preceded in death by her parents Bernardo and Miquelita Tafoya, husbands Rudolfo Mascareñas and Joe Eulogio Gurule, children Bernardo Mascareñas, Melva Mascareñas, Alvin Mascareñas, granddaughter Selena Mascareñas, siblings Marcello Tafoya, Joseines Tafoya, Eluterio Tafoya, Aurora Tafoya, Donelia Ortega and Victoria Martinez.

Matilda and Rudolfo had 9 children. She is survived by her children Marcella (Roger) Stockton, Melva (Saul) Mendez, Rudolfo (Mary Helen Martinez) Mascareñas, Jacqueline Mendez, Jeanette (Meni) Garcia, Clemente Mascareñas. 13 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, friends, and spiritual brothers and sisters.
