Matilde V. Ortiz

MATILDE V. ORTIZ, 101 A lifelong resident of Arroyo Hondo NM ended her earthly pilgrimage with family members at her side and began her eternal life in the merciful arms of her loving Savior Jesus Christ accompanied by the communion of Saints and Angels on Tuesday, November 27, 2012. She was the daughter of Rómolo and Sabinita (Gonzales) Vigil born on November 25, 1911 and was preceded in death by her husband Marcos Ortiz, their infant son Henry Ortiz, her sisters Clorinda Hererra, Eloisa Anaya, Demetria Gallegos, Rosa Rael and brother Eduardo Cordova; one grandson Marcus Ortega and one great grandson Jerome Baca. She is survived by her daughters Lorena Ortega (+José C.) and Fabiola Gonzales (Ernest) of Santa Fe and Annabelle Ortiz Vigil (+Reuben) of Taos. She is also survived by 13 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren and 4 great great grandchildren. Pallbearers will be her grandsons: James Ortega, Steven Gonzales, Phillip Ortega, Joseph Gonzales, Edward Gonzales, Peter Ortega and Paul Vigil. Honorary Pallbearers are her granddaughters: Terese J. Mares, Verna Ortega-Shockley, Annette Baca, Noel Vigil-Mills and TashaVigil-Mora. Rosary and funeral mass were held on December 1, 2012 at Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church in Arroyo Hondo. Interment followed at the Upper Arroyo Hondo Cemetery. The family is requesting that in lieu of flowers, donations be made in her memory to Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church, Arroyo Hondo through Holy Trinity Parish in Arroyo Seco, NM.
