Matthew Torres, age 82 of Ohkay Owingeh died peacefully on Thursday January 8, 2009 in Espanola, NM. He is a WWII veteran of the United States Navy, and is survived by his sons Matthew, Jr. and Thomas, and his daughter Josephine all of California, his beloved grandchildren, his brother Frank Torres and wife Beatrice of Ohkay Owingeh, and sister Mary Ann Padilla of Ohkay Owingeh as well as numerous nieces and nephews and other relatives. Recitation of the rosary will be held on Friday January 9th in the mortuary chapel at 7:00 PM, and the Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday morning at 9:00 AM at St. John The Baptist Church at Ohkay Owingeh, with interment to follow at the community cemetery. The family is especially grateful for care provided to Mr. Torres by the following: The Espanola Hospital, Espanola Valley Nursing & Rehab., Ambercare Hospice, the governor and his staff from Ohkay Owingeh, the Tewa Choir, Fr.
