Mathew Whittaker passed away peacefully April 4th, 2021, Easter Sunday, at the age of 58, surrounded by both friends and family in his home of Canjilon, New Mexico. Born to Alfred P. and Eileen Whittaker. A beloved father and brother, Matt was accomplished at whatever he put his mind to. Creating and running his own electrical business for over 30 years and eventually fulfilling a lifelong desire to see the country as a truck driver.
A young and vibrant soul, Matt always brought life with him wherever he went. No matter what task was at hand he was the man for the job- a genuine leader. Anyone around him always knew they would be well taken care of. From how to drive (trucks, trailers, tractors, boats, motorcycles), to how to not get shocked while working with electrical wires, to making the best green chile stew and homemade tortillas: he was always teaching those around him valuable lifelong skills that will out live all of us. He enjoyed spending time working on the ranch, gardening, and horseback riding especially with family. When he was not on the ranch he enjoyed hunting and fishing with friends in the mountains that he loved. His sense of humor stayed with him until the very end, giving those around him a good laugh even in the hardest of times. His generosity unwavering, no matter if it was stranger or a lifelong family friend he would be there to help. Matt could make anyone’s day with his bright blue eyes and honest smile. We are lucky to have known him and he will be dearly missed by each one of us who knew him. Especially those he is preceded by: wife Georgia Whittaker, daughters Hannah and Hailey Whittaker, brother Al Whittaker and sister Eileen Baker, nephew Josh Baker, nieces Liz, and Shannon Baker, in addition to six great nephews and nieces.
His last words where “I love you” and we could not have said it any better. A service for Matt will be held 11:00 A.M. April 23rd, 2021 at Agape Worship Center, Ghost Ranch New Mexico.
The Whittaker Family has entrusted the Rivera Family of Espanola with the gentle care of Matthew.
