Maxene Veronica Martinez November 16, 1957 – June 22, 2021
Maxene “Veronica” Martinez, 63 was called home to be with the Lord on June 22, 2021, surrounded by her loving family and friends, after a courageous 4-year battle with cancer. A devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, Maxene committed her life to family, her faith, and those in need. She was born in Santa Fe, NM on November 16, 1957, to Pedro and Paulita Roybal of Pecos, NM. She was highly devoted to her Lord and the Blessed Virgin Mary, and prayed the Rosary faithfully for her family and for anyone in need. She believed strongly in the power of prayer and passed this spirituality on to her children and grandchildren. A child of God, Maxene is dearly loved, deeply missed, and precious in His sight.
Maxene was preceded in death by parents, Pedro and Paulita Roybal; sister, Isabel DeLora; brothers-in-law, Lloyd Ulery, Cesario DeLora, Vincent DeLora; special nephews, Ronald (Ron) Roybal, Adrian Quintana; mother- in-Law, Casimira Varela.
Maxene is survived by her husband of 38 years, Anthony and children, Krystal (Orlando) Hurtado and Justin Martinez; grandchildren, Jurrell and Uriah Hurtado; brothers, Ron Roybal (Gloria), Joe S. Roybal; Sisters, Trudy Roybal, Cindy Roybal, Lena DeLora, Thelma Ulery; brother and sister-in-law, Randy Varela (Cindy) and numerous relatives, friends, and extended family. Maxene was employed by with the State of New Mexico Public Safety and worked as a substitute teacher with the Santa Fe Public Schools. Maxene will always be remembered for having cared for and nurturing her family and grandchildren. She was well known for cooking/baking her famous dishes for all occasions and she loved listening to her favorite country music singer, Alan Jackson. Maxene and Anthony enjoyed drinking coffee together in the mornings, watching their western shows and watching their two grandchildren, Jurrell and Uriah, play sports. Maxene was always their biggest fan and she never missed a game or event. Maxene was a member of San Isidro Catholic Church in Santa Fe, NM. Maxene will be greatly missed by her family and friends. Let us share with you and each other one of Maxene’s favorite sayings, “I love you to the moon and back.”
Rosary and Mass will be held at San Isidro Catholic Church on Agua Fria July 15, 2021. Rosary at 11:30am and Mass to follow. Interment will be at the Santa Fe National Cemetery at 2:15 p.m.
Reception to follow at the Elks Lodge, 1615 Old Pecos Trail, Santa Fe, NM .
