Meliton Medina

August 16, 1940 — June 10, 2021

Meliton J. Medina (Wero), 80, of La Canova, went to be with our Lord on June 10, 2021 .  He was born on August 16, 1940 in La Villita to Dolores Martinez and Manuel Medina.  In 1956, he met the love of his life, Guadalupe Rivera.  They were married in 1960 and raised 2 sons and 3 daughters.

  In his early years, Meliton was an Hermano of the Morada de Alcalde and he danced for the Matachines de Alcalde and later played the violin for them throughout his life.  He was a general contractor and bus driver for many years.  He also worked for the Los Alamos Schools and Los Alamos County where he retired in 1995.  He loved fishing and spending time with his family and friends. 

He was preceded in death by his parents, Dolores Martinez and Manuel Medina; father-in-law Antonio Rivera, mother-in-law Eliza Rivera; brothers Roberto and Alejandrino Martinez and Frutoso Medina; sisters Florinda and Luicita Martinez and Lucille Rivera; brothers-in-law Max, Herby, and Pablo Rivera; sister-in-law Grace Rivera. 

He is survived by his wife, Guadalupe; daughters Donna (Walt), Angela (Benny), and Dolores (Tony); Sons, Joe and Pablo (Bianca) and a special sisters-in-law, Sylvia Salazar and Boonie Miera; 16 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren and many other nephews, nieces, and family and friends who loved him very much. Serving as pallbearers are Rick Maestas, Josh Valdez, Benny Jr. and Nick Martinez, Joey Medina, Dennis Suazo, Antonio Medina, Jayden Garcia, and Eddie Rivera.

Honorary pallbearers are Benny Martinez Sr., Tony Garcia, Walt Sandoval, Christian Amaya, Gabriel Gallegos, Harold Salazar, Albert Chacon, Reyes Martinez, Fred Rodriguez; Godsons, Nick Martinez, Andrew Chacon and Jaquan Madden; Goddaughters, Soledad Martinez, Penny Aragon, Roseanne Rivera, Rosanna Sanchez and the rest of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Viewing will be held at Rivera’s Funeral Home on June 14, 2021 from 6:00 pm to 7:00 pm with rosary to follow.  Mass will be held at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Velarde on June 15, 2021 at 11:00 am with a christian burial immediately following at Our Lady of Guadalupe cemetery.
