Michael Gutierrez

Michael Gutierrez, a life-long resident of Velarde and more recently of Fairview, has passed away. He was preceded in death by his father, Ray Gutierrez, and his mother, Josephine “Lala” Candelaria Gutierrez. Michael earned his BA degree from New Mexico Highlands University in Science Education and was a well-liked teacher in the Taos and Espanola Schools. In his younger days he loved to fish the rivers, streams, and lakes of northern New Mexico.

Michael is survived by his brother, Dr. John Ray Gutierrez and wife Ruthie of Albuquerque, brother Patrick of Santa Fe, his niece, Mía Bautista, and two nephews Stevan and Jimmy Gutierrez. Also surviving him are his very special tíos Tranquilino and Mary Jane Griego of Aztec. A private memorial will take place at a later date.
