Michael Martinez

Michael “Maggie” Martinez, 72, of Ranchos de Taos, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family and friends on August 19, 2021.  He is preceded in death by wife, Gloria Martinez, parents, Bennie and Josie D.  Martinez, grandparents, Serapio and Bertha Duran and Fred Martinez and Elena Lucero.    He is survived by his wife, Sandy Martinez, sons, Michael (Dolores), Anthony, Raymond (Carla) and Matthew Martinez (Mary), stepson, Eloy Montoya (Valerie), grandchildren, Sara, Alyssa, Raylee, Reghan, Mattox, Jude, Mateo and Brianah, brothers, Joseph and Bill Martinez, sister, Naomi Cardenas (Richard), uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews and many other relatives and special friends.

Maggie worked in the Social Services field with many agencies in Taos and was known for his lifelong involvement in sports beginning in high school.  He proudly represented the Taos Tigers in 1967 as the starting quarterback.  Maggie was well known in the community, was down to earth and a friend to all.  He will be greatly missed.

Special thanks to our family that surrounded him in his time of illness, the nurses at Mountain Home Hospice, especially Teresa Archuleta and Catherine Haefner and all the special friends who came to visit, called, and brought support to him and his family.  Special thanks to the staff at Rivera Funeral Home for their patience, love and compassion. 

Memorial service will be held Tuesday August 31, 2021 at 10AM at Rivera Chapel with interment to follow at the Sierra Vista Cemetery.
