Miguel (Mike) Gonzales passed away peacefully on April 10th the day before his 60th wedding anniversary, his wife Lily called him up so they can celebrate together. Mike was very religous faithful to the Catholic Church. He prayed the rosary every day.
Mike grew up on Canyon Road with his mom, dad, 10 brothers and 5 sisters. In high school Mike played both football and basketball. After high school he served our country in the Army. When he returned from the Army he went on to work for the Penitentiary of New Mexico, he started working in the infirmary for over 20 years he then became Lt. Guard for the remainder of his 25 years of service to the State Pen.
Mike along with his wife were very instrumental in the Fraternal Order of Police where they spent many hours. Mike served in every capacity of the board including FOP President many times. He was proud to be part of FOP attending many conferences throughout the State of NM. Mike was also a member of the Elks, VFW, and Eagles.
Mike was a really good pool player, he enjoyed fishing, poker, and working on his yard. He always loved sports and made sure his daughter learned from a very young age. They spent a lot of time watching football, boxing, baseball, basketball. His favorite was watching his SF 49ers and the NM Lobos. He loved watching his granddaughter play basketball all thru her school years.
Mike married Lily Lovato and had one daughter Miquela. Lily had two sons previously and Mike raised them both. He was always there for his daughter and grandchildren. Mike was kind, loving, understanding, and very supportive.
Mike is proceeded in death by his father Filiberto Gonzales, his mother Catalina (Rodriguez) Gonzales, His loving wife Lily (Lovato) Gonzales, step-sons Leonard C de Baca and Johnny C de Baca. His brothers Cipriano, Eloy, Benito, Frank, Victor, Andres Gonzales and sister Rufina Moya.
Mike is survived by his daughter: Miquela Gonzales, Granddaughters: Marquel Gonzales-Aragon (fiancé Karly), Amanda C de Baca (Tony), Shanda C de Baca, Grandsons: Joaquin C de Baca (Ana) Christopher C de Baca and Justin C de Baca-Rogers, 11 great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild. Brothers: Albert, Alfonso, Eddie (Christine), and Richard (Grace) Gonzales. Sisters: Angie (Pete) Lopez, Mabel (Ben) Romero, Rachel (Antonio) Escandon, and Christina Gonzales, Brother in laws: Joe Lovato, Ruben Lovato (Loretta) and Sister in law: Dolores Lopez and many, many, nieces and nephews.
Memorial services will be held on May 26, 2022, at Santa Maria de la Paz, 11 College Ave. 10:00 am (Rosary) 10:30 am (Mass) 12:45 (Burial) at National Cemetery. Immediately following burial a reception will be held at the FOP on Airport Road.
