Mike Pete Vigil – Mike fought a valiant battle against lung cancer for over two years. He succumbed to the disease on Tuesday, December 4, 2007. Mike was born on October 13, 1939 in El Guache to Gusman and Antonia Vigil who preceded him in death. He is also preceded in death by his sister, Christina Vigil; brother, Bobby Vigil and great-grandson, Silas Joseph Hernandez. Mike was in the National Guard, he worked for Duke City Lumber Yard and finally for Cook's Mercantile as a driver for 25 years. He enjoyed spending time with his family, camping, farming and working on his ranch. He had many friends from his years as a resident of El Guache and working at Cook's. Mike married Virginia War from El Guache, who are the proud parents of eleven children, twenty five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Virginia; his loving children: Frances & William Cooper and Family of Los Alamos, Christine & Fabian Padilla and Family of El Guache, Matthew, Myra and Amberlyn Vigil of El Guache, Anna & Leroy Martinez and Family of San Pedro, Lucy & Anthony Rendon and Family of Dixon, Margaret & Dennis Trujillo and Family of Hernandez, Sadie & Matthew Valdez and Family of La Villita, Joselene & Lonnie Montoya and Family of McCurdy, Barbara, Vernon and Alyssa Vigil of Ojo Sarco, Tonie & Gabriel Baros and Family of El Duende and Michael Vigil and boys of El Guache; brothers and sisters: Matilda & Elmer Romero and Family, Flora Chavez and Family, Bernie & Rudy Cordova and Family, Amada Schultz and Family, Frances Holt and Family, Lily & Manuel Martinez and Family, Sylvia Salazar and Family and Daivd Vigil and Family and numerous other relatives and friends. A rosary will be recited on Thursday, December 6 at 7:00 pm. in the Chapel of Block-Salazar Mortuary. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, December 7 at 10:00 am at San Jose Catholic Church, with the burial to follow at San Jose Cemetery. Reception will immediately follow at Anthony's at the Delta. Serving as pallbearers will be Antonio Martinez, Keith Padilla, Thomas and Jerry Cordova and Joseph and Larry Salazar. Honorary pallbearers will be his two sons : Matthew and Michael Vigil; son in-laws: Bill Cooper, Fabian Padilla, Leroy Martinez, Anthony Rendon, Dennis Trujillo, Matthew Valdez, Lonnie Montoya, Vernon Vigil and Gabriel Baros.
