Moises Maestas

Moises “Moe” U. Maestas, 74, a resident of Talpa, passed away peacefully with his family by his side on March 31, 2022. He is preceded in death by his parents, Bences and Corina Maestas, siblings, Julian, Johnny Maestas, Porfie Montoya and Diana Hammer, children, Ernestine and Michael Velarde, granddaughter, Miquela Velarde, in-laws, Flavio and Anita Abeyta, Augustine and Mabel Harmon, Tony Valdez, Gregorio Gonzales, Ted Lopez, nephews, Greg Gonzales and Julian Maestas and many other loving relatives. He is survived by his wife,  Michelle Maestas, children, Dominic Maestas (Carla), Tanya Maestas (Josh),  Ari Maestas Shawn Maestas, Julie Velarde and Mark Velarde, siblings, Orlando Maestas (Amy), Alice Valdez (Horace), Lorraine Smith (Harry), Eva Valdez, Gloria Lopez, Olivia Gonzales, Jeanette Vigil (Herson), Cleo Coca (Johnny), Mercy Quintana (Robert), in-laws, Flavio Abeyta (Tommie), Ruben Abeyta (Nan), Pat Abeyta (Linda), Ida McCabe, James Trujillo (Stella), Roberta Martinez (Arturo), Lorraine Abeyta, Eddie Abeyta (Cora), Godchildren, Wilfred Gonzales, Michael Gonzales and Kathy Pacheco and many other loving relatives and friends.  Moises was a proud veteran of the United States Army. Upon completion of his military service he returned to work for the Town of Taos where he retired after 30 years.  Moises was very dedicated to his Catholic faith and was very devoted to St. Francis de Assisi Church.  He loved raising his cattle, baling hay, going for wood, hunting and being outside fixing cars.  Moises loved to travel every year for Memorial Day, Veterans Day and any Sunday to the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Angel Fire, where he is honored with a brick in his name for his honorable and selfless service as a Vietnam Veteran.  Moises will be tenderly remembered for his big smile and his warm heart, his loving patience as he lived each day with incredible happiness. Moises welcomed everyone into his home and loved his grandchildren very much.

Rosary will be recited on April 19, 2022 at 9:00 am with funeral mass at 10:00 am at St. Francis de Assisi Church with interment to follow at 1:00 pm at Angel Fire Veterans Cemetery
