It is with deep sorrow and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Monica Lisa Galloway, who passed away unexpectedly at the age of 57, on December 29, 2024, in Santa Fe, New Mexico. She was a loving wife, mother, daughter, sister, niece, cousin, friend, and sponsor. She made her grand appearance on November 1, 1967, at the Old Saint Vincents Hospital.
She was a lifelong resident of Santa Fe, NM. She started her career in State Government right after High School. She may have issued you your driver’s license or registered your vehicle. Or maybe you saw her and her beautiful smile at Albertsons. Or maybe you were blessed to be helped by her at her absolute favorite job, Pet Smart. Monica adored her wife, daughter, clowder of cats, her mother, brother, sister, niece, nephew, best friends, family, friends, and coworkers. Monica didn’t know “stranger danger,” she viewed everyone through the lens of love and friend. If you were blessed to have her in your life, you knew she had your back. She was an advocate, defender, caregiver, humanitarian, tenacious, loud, loving, loved, kind, and a warrior. She had a magnetic personality; she was someone you would notice or hear in a room. She was deeply spiritual, and it showed through her selfless actions. She was a Fix it Felix. If she couldn’t fix it or figure it out she always knew someone who could. Her famous words where “I got it!” In her eyes her greatest accomplishments were motherhood, being a friend of Bill’s since 1999 (25 years of a solid relationship) and standing up against one of the largest Insurance companies. But to the rest of us her greatest accomplishments were her gigantic golden heart, her quickness to forgive, and her willingness to go above and beyond for her fellow human. Her light and joy that she always tried to share. Being a powerful example of what sobriety can look like. Her infectious smile, her voice, presence, care, love, her lightheartedness, and integrity. She means so many things to so many people.
Monica is survived by her beloved wife Leyla Germaine Romero, beloved daughter Serenity A.K.A Bowie Romero-Galloway, Mother Dorothy Ulibarri Galloway, Mother-in-law Kathy Hernandez-Harris, Brother John Galloway, Sister Stephanie Galloway, Brother-in-law Ed Fratello, Nephew Eddie Fratello, Niece Willow Fratello, along with many more beloved family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her grandparents Anita and Ernesto Ulibarri.
