Olga Tzeranis De La O Obituary
Olga Tzeranis De La O was born December 26, 1937, and died May 19, 2024, surrounded by her loving family.
Olga has been called home by our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Olga was suffering and He took her home to stop her pain and let her reunite with family and friends. Olga was born in Madrid, NM to her mother Lucia and her father Panayotes “Pete” Tzeranis, a coal miner, originally from Kania, Crete, Greece.
Olga was preceded in death by her parents Lucia and Panayotes “Pete” Tzeranis, youngest daughter Julie Alexia and by Julie’s sons Mark and Estevan. Olga also was preceded in death by brothers Joe “Lalo” Benavidez, Frank “Poncho” Benavidez, Frank’s children Phyllis and Frank Jr., sister Catherine Wheeler, and numerous cousins.
Olga is survived by her husband. Rudy De La O, daughter Valerie De La O, her husband Albert Valdez, children Adam Valdez, Allison Solis and husband Miguel and children Mila and Andrew. She is also survived by son Mark De La O, wife Amber and sons Nick De La O, wife Kayla, son Marcos, wife Anwyn and daughter Aurelia. Olga is also survived by daughter Yvette De La O, husband Patrick Block and son Desmond Block.
Olga started grade school in Madrid and made her first communion there. She moved to Santa Fe and into the Santa Fe Public School system while in grade school. She started working at a very young age to help her father operate the Fayette Grocery, a neighborhood market. Olga attended Larragoite Elementary, Leah Harvey Junior High and Santa Fe High, graduating in 1955.
Olga was an accomplished bead artist and jeweler and made many close friends while working with imported glass beads, turquoise stones and silver. She taught beadwork classes in Albuquerque, Old Town San Diego, Phoenix, Scottsdale, and many classes from her home in Santa Fe. These get togethers were filled with laughter and happiness, confirming the enjoyment taking place.
Olga and Rudy are long time parishioners of St. Anne parish, and assisted Father Leo Ortiz at St. Anne parish with lay ministries, helping transition the St. Vincent de Paul Society back to parish management, and renaming it St. Anne Helping Hands.
Olga retired from a 25-year career with Sears as a training coordinator, starting when the store was downtown, and finishing her career at the new store at Villa Linda Mall.
Olga and Rudy were married by Father Cassidy at St. Anne parish on May 25, 1957, enjoying nearly 67 years of marriage and supporting each other through good times and bad.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at Ambercare and Rivera Family Funeral Home for their care, kindness, and compassion during this difficult time.
Rosary and mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at St. Anne Parish on Thursday, June 6, 2024, beginning at 9:00 a.m, with interment at Rosario Cemetery following the mass. The family will host a reception at the St. Anne Parish Hall immediately following the burial.
