Opal Sikes

Dorothy Opal East Sikes, 92, was born on December 4, 1915 to Otis Alvin East and Nancy Melvina Peckumn near Stanley, Santa Fe County, New Mexico. She died at home on January 25, 2008, after an extended illness. She is preceded in death by her parents, her brother U.G. East, her sister Leona East, Son James, Grandson Brian, and her loving husband of 66 years, Clifton. Opal graduated from Santa Fe High School, Class Of 1934, and began a long career as a legal secretary with various law firms. Eventually, retiring from the legal division, NMSHD (New Mexico State Highway Dept.) Opal loved traveling, fishing, her extended family and friend, and cooking. Opal's faith in the Lord was unshakable to the very end. She knew she would be reunited with her loved ones in Heaven. Opal is survived by her son David and wife Pat, Grandsons Greg and Jeff, Granddaughter Elisabeth, son Billy, Partner San Juana, granddaughters Tami and Becky, grandsons David and W.T., two great-grandsons, four great-granddaughters, an extended family and many special friends.
