Paulette Clark

d. May 26, 2010

Paule (Paulette) Marguerite Marie Emanuelli Clark , 87, born in Meknes , Morocco , of French parents, passed away May 26, 2010. She is survived by her children, Philippe (Kim) Clark, Anne-Marie (Bruce) Emanuelli, Martin Clark and grandchildren, Paul Clark and Marielle Gomez. Paulette came to the United States in 1947 with her former husband, Dr. R. Edward Clark (US Air Force) whom she met during WWII in Casablanca. She lived in New York State, Minnesota before settling in New Mexico , and becoming a U.S. citizen in 1963. She taught French at Cornell University, West Pakistan Agricultural University and the College of Artesia. After living in Artesia, NM, the family moved to Peñasco, NM in 1974 and Taos in 1975, where Paulette remained. She loved Taos for many reasons, including the local cultural traditions and religious history as well as how the landscape reminded her of Morocco and Corsica. Gifted with many talents including ballet, drawing, cooking, embroidery, sewing and ceramics, she was also a long-time substitute teacher in the Taos Municipal Schools and majordoma at San Francisco de Assis church in Ranchos de Taos. For decades, she volunteered to talk to the tourists every Saturday, explaining the cultural, artistic and architectural beauties and mysteries of the church. She was well known as an excellent custom tailor and for her cooking skills, especially her French Christmas yule log cakes. She will always be remembered for her generosity, charm, intelligence, resilience and positive outlook on life. Rosary was recited on June 2, 2010 and funeral mass was held on June 3, 2010 at San Francisco de Asis Church. She will be laid to rest in her home town in southern France. In lieu of flowers, donations are being accepted at New Mexico Federal Educators Credit Union for a scholarship fund in her name to benefit a local student that will major in French language or International Relations.
