Dr. Paul Oliver Frederickson passed away on November 13, 2023, surrounded by his wife of 65 years, Rosmarie, and his children Beth, Margie, Jim and Howard.
He was preceded in death by his parents Howard and Dagne (Ostergaard) Frederickson, and his siblings Audrey, Donna and David.
His insatiable curiosity and dry wit live on in his grandchildren Oliver, Freya, Kira, Rafael, Brigham, Maurnét, Arianna, Michael, Arlo, Brienne, Matthew and Lexi, and his great grandchildren Valory, Cedar, Simon and Eleanor.
Paul received his PhD in Mathematics from the University of Nebraska in 1964, and had a long, fulfilling career teaching and researching at universities in Ohio, Maryland, Canada, Germany, and Norway. He finished his career developing algorithms for large parallel processing computers at NASA and LANL.
Paul was deeply committed to building a more just, democratic and sustainable world, which manifested in service to his community. He was involved in many community activities including the Utilities Board, the founding board of the Los Alamos Cooperative Market and he traveled and volunteered with Rotary International.
He loved this beautiful country, and spent many hours with his family outdoors, running, hiking and camping.
A celebration of Paul’s life is planned for April 13, 2024 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, tentatively set for 2:30.
Donations will be given to projects Paul supported.
