Dr. Pauline May Collins, PhD. aged 79, passed away on Tuesday, October 3, 2023 at Bee Hive Homes in Santa Fe, NM. She was the loving wife of Raymond E. Collins. Pauline was born on November 14, 1943 in Detroit, Michigan, daughter of the late Wayne Wiita and the late Tyme Johnson Hayward. She was the stepdaughter of the late Lloyd Hayward. She is also predeceased by her sister, Patricia Wiita Rose.
Pauline was raised in Detroit and Dearborn Heights, Michigan. After becoming the mother of two sons, she enrolled in college at Henry Ford Community College in Dearborn, finishing her Bachelor of Arts at the University of Michigan, Dearborn. Not one to stop once she started a project, she continued at the University of Michigan and received a Masters Degree in Social Work and her Doctorate in Social Work and Psychology, graduating in May of 1990. She became the Assistant Dean of the Graduate School of Social Work at Boston College in Chestnut Hill, MA. She and Ray then moved to Newton, MA, where they resided for the next 18 years. They divided their time between Newton and their home on Spinnaker Island in Boston Harbor, particularly enjoying sea kayaking. When the grandchildren started to arrive, they purchased homes in Santa Fe and Hopkinton, MA, travelling to spend time with their grandsons.
In addition to her husband of 60 years, Pauline is survived by her sons, Keith Collins and his wife MaryLynn of Santa Fe, Shawn Collins and his wife Susan of Hopkinton, and her grandsons, Tecumseh of Santa Fe, Raymond, and Joseph, both of Hopkinton. She is also survived by several in-laws, nieces and nephews. There will be no services.
Pauline always loved animals, particularly horses. To honor her, the family requests that donations be made to an animal shelter or horse shelter in her name.
When someone we love becomes a memory, the memory becomes a treasure.
