Peter Michael Bassin (born in NYC, December 15, 1938) passed away peacefully on December 21, 2024, at his home in Cerrillos, NM. To the Cerrillos/Madrid community, he was known and loved as “Pistol Pete." Pete was a man who didn’t follow many rules but was the most reliable and fun person you would know.
Before settling in Cerrillos, he served in the Army 802nd Field Artillery Battalion, stationed in Germany. He had a successful career as Light/Sound Technician and Stage Set Designer for Rock & Roll Bands such as Jefferson Starship, Grateful Dead, Van Morrison, Santana, Beach Boys, and Judy Collins.
After moving back to his beloved New Mexico, Pete was Manager of Operations at the Downs of Santa Fe and Maintenance Supervisor and Scenic Artist for the Mine Shaft Tavern.
Among his many passions, he loved to race motorcycles, ride fast horses, sail boats, and trap-shoot.
Pete leaves behind his sister Carol, daughter Andrea, grandsons Keaton & Gabriel, niece Erica and her family, and caregiver Zach, as well as his two loving dogs Tigre and Betsy. He had countless friends and neighbors who continued to remain important in his life and who helped care for him in his last days: Alyson/Henry, Noff, Karyn, Anne, Ponytail Ron, Peter, Claire & John, Llora, Carol & Nicole/Olivia, and so many more. He is remembered fondly for his charisma, charm, passion for fun and adventure, strength of character, sense of humor, and love of all animals.
It was a wild ride, and as Pete liked to say, "I have no regrets."
In Liew of flowers, please make donations to the Santa Fe Animal Shelter.
