PHILLIP I LUJAN, 91, passed away on December 2, 2023. Philip was raised in Los Alamitos, NM (near Pecos) and spent most of his years in Cuyamungue, NM. Phillip was preceded in death by his parents, Roman and Flora Dalton Lujan, eight brothers, Alfredo, Antonio, Roman Jr., Erminio, Refugio, Estevan, Albert, and Manuel, two sisters, Barbara and Mary Ann, in-laws Jose and Ursinia Romero, Gabino, and Edward (Flora) Romero. Phillip is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Helen Lujan, his son Charles (JoAnn), grandchildren Charles Jr. (Andrea), Yvonne (Matthew), Cruz (Jolene) and Angelo (Bailey), seven great-grandchildren, in-laws Manuel (Erma), Lawrence (Gloria) and Jim (Lorraine).
Phillip was a disabled veteran who proudly served in the Korean War, where he obtained the rank of Staff Seargent as he managed the 52 Section of the Headquarters Company of the 3rd Battalion of the 24th Division. He graduated from New Mexico Highlands University where he obtained a BA and master’s degree in education and modern foreign languages. After his retirement, Phillip and his wife traveled extensively throughout the U.S. and abroad. Phillip was a lifelong member of the D.A.V. and served 48 years as a commissioner of the irrigation system of West Cuyamungue and 10 years as Secretary of the Jacona Land Grant. Phillip enjoyed the outdoors, fishing, camping, hunting, irrigating his orchard, gardens and alfalfa fields. He also enjoyed spending time at the Lujan family ranch in Los Alamitos.
Services will be held on December 20, 2023 at Our Lady of Guadalupe Parish, 9 Grazing Elk Dr., Pojoaque, with a rosary at 9:00 a.m., followed by a Mass at 10:00 a.m. Burial will take place on December 21, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. at the Santa Fe National Cemetery in Santa Fe.
