Phyllis was the youngest of five siblings growing up in Tucumcari during the depression era. The family relocated to Springer, NM for more gainful employment. While attending Springer High School, she met the love of her life at the local skating rink. They fell in love and eloped to Woodward, Oklahoma and got married. They were together for 74 years until Manuel’s death.
Manuel served in the Army during World War II, stationed in San Diego, California. They both lived in California during his service. Her son George was born in San Diego. Remaining in California after a brief move back to New Mexico, she discovered her true passion. After a couple of neighbors extended an invitation to learn how to play bridge. Playing bridge started an addiction that lasted her lifetime, with her great playing skills and having an anylitical mind for the game she achieved a status of Ruby life masters. After experiencing strong California earthquakes, her and her husband Manuel moved to Santa Fe, to retire quickly establishing herself back into the local bridge scene, she took up her second passion of baking cakes. One paramount recipe was highlighted (us/pictures) in the Santa Fe New Mexican newspaper. She also loved psychology and would toy with games yielding a pysch profile with her friends. She also loved handwriting analysis.
In her last days while attended to by various caregivers she bonded with her care taker companion Luz Rodriguez. It was through Luz’s loving care and many prayers from her immediate family she left us in solem peace. Now she is at total peace in her beloved Santa Fe, under the New Mexico blue skies that she always loved and talked about.
