Prescilla J. Lovato
February 11, 1935 – June 4, 2021
Prescilla Lovato, 86, passed peacefully and surrounded by family in her Santa Fe home on June 4, 2021.
A devoted wife, mother, grandmother and friend, she committed her life to family, her faith, and those in need.
Born in Nambe, she lived in Española before moving to Santa Fe, her home for more than 69 years. It was here that she met the love of her life, Joe Lovato. One of Joe and Prescilla’s first dates was to a local dance headlined by Benny Goodman, who performed an unforgettable rendition of “Stardust.” The couple shared time together at The Boy’s Club, where they helped feed local children. It was the beginning of Prescilla’s lifelong commitment to making sure the children around her never went hungry. As her family grew, she remained steadfast in also keeping the door open to their neighborhood kids, who always knew where they could find a hot meal. A dedicated mother with 11 of her own children, she was also a mother figure to numerous others, including grandchildren and family members.
She was highly devoted to her Lord and the Blessed Virgin Mary. She prayed the rosary faithfully for her family and for anyone in need. She believed strongly in the power of prayer and passed this spirituality on to her children and grandchildren.
A child of God, Prescilla is dearly loved, deeply missed and precious in His sight.
She was preceded in death by sons, Jerry, Donald, and Leo Lovato, parents Gregorio and Beroniz Lopez, and Julian and Rose Trujillo, sister Ernestine (Manuel) Trujillo, Virginia (Jose) Romero, brothers Leopoldo (Bennie) Lopez, Maclovio (Rose) Lopez, Horacio Lopez, brother-in-law Arturo Romero. Prescilla is survived by her husband, Joe, and children, Andy (Anhara), Joe (Patricia), Pat (Louann), Ted (Clarissa), Anna (David), Larry, Carlos (Jennifer) Lisa (Andrew) and grandchildren Todd, Nicholas, Juniper, Everette, Jessica, Jerome, Dominic, Cassaundra, Joseph, Jared, Arianna, Miranda, Devonne, Loryn, David Jr., Andrew, Steven, Gabriel, Christopher, Savannah, Juliana, Analise, Breeana, and sisters, Miquela Romero, Rafaelita Martinez, sister-in-law, Mary Quintana, and numerous relatives, friends and extended family.
