Ramoncita M. Montoya was called by our Lord on the morning of Friday, January 11th at the ripe old age of 92. She was born and raised in Chamita, NM. During World War II, she and her sisters helped with the war effort by going to San Francisco, CA. and working in the Kaiser shipyards. After that, she returned to New Mexico and attended Highlands University where she earned her teaching degree. She then went on to teach at numerous schools throughout northern New Mexico for over 30 years. She traveled to Spain, Japan and Washington, D.C. to sightsee and be with family. Ramoncita was a loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother, who is survived by her granddaughter Margaret Martinez, husband Martin and son Andrew of Peoria, AZ., grandson Mark Maestas and wife Hitomi of Woodland Hills, CA.,step-sonsDennis, Jr., John, Alby, and Gilbert Montoya, step-daughters Estella Sandoval, Ruth Jaramillo, and Margaret Montoya, two close nephews Paul Gonzales and David Maestas and other nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws, out-laws, as well as three very supportive friends, Father Vidal Martinez, Anna Gonzales and David Salazar. She was preceded in death by parents Gorgonio and Francesquita Maestas, husband Dennis Montoya, son Jose LeRoy Maestas, step-son Bobby Montoya and siblings; Eufemia and Georgia Maestas, Josie Gonzales, Antonia Mascarenas and Jose Maestas. Recitation of the Rosary will be held on Saturday January 19th at 11:00 am, with the Mass of Christian Burial being immediately following at 11:30 am at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church at Ohkay Owingeh Pueblo.
