Ramon Serna, Jr. (Ray), 74, passed away peacefully on January 16, 2016 after a long battle with Parkinson’s Disease. Born in Hatch, NM in 1941 to Ramon Serna and Rose Torres, Ramon was the eldest of nine siblings. He was a New Mexico Highlands University Hall of Fame baseball player. Ray was a beloved teacher, coach and athletic director. He believed everyone should have the opportunity to play sports and sports and education was a way out of poverty. He is preceded in death by his father, Ramon Serna, mother Rosie Torres, brothers, Charles Serna and Tommy Serna and sisters Mary Alice Garcia and Joanne Valenzuela. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Leonila Duran Serna, his daughter, Dr. Madelyn Serna Marmol, his grandsons, Rafael E. Marmol, III and Ramon C. Marmol, sister, Gloria Molinar, brothers, Albert Serna (Josie), Freddy Serna and Ricardo Valenzuela and many beloved nieces, nephews, godchildren, relatives, NMHU teammates, athletes, students and friends. Rosary was recited on January 22, 2016. Funeral mass was held on January 23, 2016. Both were held at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the Michael J.
