Randy J. Martinez, age 56 of Taos, NM began his journey home to be with Jesus on March 26, 2019, after a brave fight with injuries sustained from a gunshot wound. He is proceeded in death by his grandparents, Milton & Lupe DeHerrera and Felipe & Eloisa Martinez from Costilla, NM. He is survived by his daughter Julie Martinez, parents Maxine Caraveo (George Tafoya) & Lee Martinez, brothers Eli Martinez (Shirley), Salt Lake City, UT; Anthony Martinez, Taos, NM; sisters Marcie Turek (Chris), Herlong, CA; Mary Chavez (Hector), Taos, NM; Bernadette Zamora-Martinez (Joe), Herlong, CA; Delores Lewis (Chad), Taos, NM; aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends that loved him dearly. "We are confident, I say, and willing rather to be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord. 2 Corinthians 5:8 (KJV)" Services are on Sunday, March 31, 2019, at 1:00 pm at The Potters House, 212 Paseo del Canon E, Taos, NM. Following the services, are all welcomed to attend a gathering with food at Taos Valley Lodge, 615 Paseo Del Pueblo Sur, Taos. Randy’s love in life was his daughter Julie; he was an amazing father to her. Randy had this charisma about him and was able to make friends wherever he went. The family would like to thank the staff at the UNM Trauma Center for working tirelessly to save Randy's life and also a special thank you to our cousin Jennie Romero who took care of our mother while she tended to Randy and Eloyito DeHerrera. “Don’t think of him as gone away his journey’s just begun, life holds so many facets this earth is only one. Just think of him as resting from the sorrows and the tears in a place of warmth and comfort where there are no days and years. Think about how he must be wishing that we could know today how nothing but our sadness can really pass away. And think of him as living in the hearts of those he touched…for nothing loved is ever lost and he was loved so much” (poem by Ellen Brenneman). Arrangements by Rivera Family Funeral Home, Taos.
