Jose Raul Ocampo-Baldizon

Jose Raul Ocampo-Baldizon departed to his eternal home with our Lord Jesus on Wednesday, April 16, 2025. He was born on April 11, 1936, in Rivas, Nicaragua. Overcoming great odds, he earned a degree in agronomy and worked in banking. He moved his family to the United States in 1978 seeking safety and a better life. Raul, as he was called by those who knew him, was also known as "abuelito", "ito" and "tata" by his grandchildren. Though he was very philosophical, he loved to joke and had a great sense of humor. He loved a good meal, working in his vegetable garden and traveling to his native Nicaragua. He has left a void in the hearts of those of us who love him, but we rest in the hope of meeting up with him in heaven.

Raul is survived by his bride of 60 years, Yelba Luz Ocampo, daughter, Luz Marina Hairgrove and husband, Tom of Killeen, TX; daughter, Erlinda Vanessa Johnson and husband Kendal of Albuquerque; son, Jose R. Ocampo and wife Monica of Santa Fe; grandchildren, Gavin, Erika, Miranda, Jose Gabriel, Bethany, Gabriela, Liliana and Dominic; great-grandchildren, Julian Jose and Kaysen Clyde.

Funeral services will be held at Historic San Isidro Catholic Church, 3694 Agua Fria St, Santa Fe, NM 87507, on Thursday, April 24, 2025, beginning with a rosary at 9:00 am, followed by a mass at 10:00 a.m. and burial services at Santa Fe Memorial Gardens, 417 Rodeo Rd, Santa Fe, NM 87505. A viewing will be held on April 23, 2025, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., at the chapel at the Santa Fe Memorial Gardens.
