Ray Frank Griego

September 2, 1974 — February 9, 2021

Our beloved son, father, brother, uncle, nephew, and friend, Ray Frank Griego has gone to be with the lord.  Ray unexpectedly passed away on Tuesday, February 9, 2021 at the age of 46 at his home in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

Ray was born in Santa Fe, NM on September 2, 1974.  He was the first-born child of Jo Ann Garcia Mares and Frank Griego. 

Ray is a graduate of Santa Fe High School and New Mexico State University.  He holds a BS in Hotel / Resort/ Tourism Management.  He dabbled a bit in the hotel business but realized he had bigger dreams.  In 2002 he founded Dos Griegos & Associates, Real Estate Appraisers and Consultants, LLC.  He was an entrepreneur and was personally responsible for starting the careers of many individuals in the appraisal business.

Ray loved his children above all else and consistently strived to be a good father.  He was the best big brother, kind, caring, and so full of life.  He enjoyed life and was so much fun to be around.  He loved telling funny stories and making people laugh. He enjoyed traveling, fine dining, playing golf, and wrestling.  He was always there to help anyone, in any situation.  Ray had a passion for the outdoors and the Dallas Cowboys.  He was an avid hunter and fisherman and was happiest in the mountains.  His loving manner, amazing laugh, and smile will greatly be missed by many. 

Ray was preceded in death by cousin Seferino Ortiz and his niece Linnaya Jaid Sanchez.  Great grandparents Louise and Oliver Padilla, grandparents Jose and Frances Griego, and Gilbert Mares. Uncles Ray Griego and Jesse Griego.

Ray is survived by his three beautiful children Jose Carpio Griego, Nadege Belicia Griego, and Kylie Joline Griego.  His parents Jo Ann (Frank) Mares and Frank (Deborah) Griego. His brothers Gilbert Garcia, Frank Mares, and Jared (Gaby) Griego and sisters, Emily (Ojito) Prevatt, and Jeni (Nathaniel) Sanchez.  His nieces and nephews, Malachi Prevatt, Helena Prevatt, Griffin Prevatt, Santiago Garcia (Godson), Cortez Garcia, Victoria Garcia, Liberty-Monet Garcia, Mason Aranda, Frank Mares, Brody Mares, Karma Mares (Goddaughter), and Jordan Griego. Grandparents Rosalie (Carl) Herrera, Ignacio (Clara) Garcia, Judy Maez, and Faye Mares.  Godparents Cecilia and Gilbert Gonzales and many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.

A mass of Catholic burial will be celebrated in memory of Ray on Thursday, February 18, 2021, at 2 pm at San Isidro Catholic Church, with Fr. Frank D. Pretto presiding.  The rosary will be prayed before the mass at 1:30 pm at San Isidro Catholic Church. Burial will be at Rivera Family Cemetery at a later date. Flowers, donations, and condolences may be offered at Rivera Family Funeral Home 417 East Rodeo Road Santa Fe, NM 87505.
