R. Dennis Chavez

November 24, 1956 — October 26, 2024

R. Dennis Chavez (67) of Santa Fe passed away on October 26, 2024.  Born November 24, 1956. 

Dennis was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Magdalena Chavez. He was brother to Loretta Evans, brother-in-law to Gary Evans, sister Magdalena Sikes, brother to Arthur Chavez and brother-in-law to Renee Chavez.  He was uncle to several nieces and nephews.  He took care of his mother for 30 years after his father passed  - Dennis was definitely a family man.  

 Dennis loved to spend time with his family and friends.  He played fast pitch softball, skied double black diamonds, golfed with a passion, and played tennis very intensely.  

He loved playing games and one of his favorites was Call of Duty.  Dennis was a journeyman electrician with union 611 and was very proud of his work and always did a great job.  

Dennis loved to travel to Las Vegas, New York City, Washington D.C., Colorado, Arizona, Michigan and all the great places of New Mexico going to the mountains, hiking and fishing.  

He loved going to the State Fair, and always enjoyed going to Balloon Fiesta.  He was such a caring and loving soul that whoever met Dennis would remember him with a smile and have fond memories.  He loved the holidays, decorating, cooking and celebrating with family.  He always made it special.

 And no one could deny that Dennis loved to party and played hard.  He sure did love a good time. 

 Dennis is mourned by his loving partner of 30 years, Susan Vrabel, who loved him deeply with all her heart and soul. 

Susan says "I cannot believe how lucky I was to be able to share his life and how he made mine better." 

  A memorial service will be held at 12:00 pm on Monday, November 18th at Rivera Funeral Home 417 Rodeo Rd at Santa Fe, NM 87505.  There will be a Celebration of Life afterwards to share some stories and remember the good times. 

  Dennis was such an animal lover.  If you would like to make a donation in his name. please consider the Santa Fe Animal Shelter & Humane Society or your local animal shelter.
