Rebecca Donohue

June 22, 1949 — October 29, 2024

Rebecca (Becky) Donohue passed away peacefully in her sleep on October 29th, 2024, surrounded by family. Becky was born in Greensboro, North Carolina in 1949. After high school, she attended Randolph-Macon Woman’s College before transferring to the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where she received a B.A. in 1971. She received an M.A. from George Washington University in 1974. While living in Washington, D.C., she met David Donohue, and they were married in 1975. Shortly thereafter, Becky and David moved to Santa Fe. In 1981, they welcomed their daughter, Sarah. Becky spent 22 years working as a counselor for the Santa Fe Public Schools, with most of her career at Gonzales Community School, where she had many cherished colleagues and friends. At the start of every school year, she procured and organized school supplies and clothing for children who could not afford them, and in winter, she ensured that as many children as possible had warm coats. Every holiday season, she worked with local churches and other organizations to provide gifts for families living in poverty. After she retired, she volunteered at the Museum of International Folk Art. She was a devoted member of St. Bede’s Episcopal Church, serving on their outreach committee, volunteering as a greeter, and participating in many other activities with treasured friends from that community. She is preceded in death by her parents, Winfield Barney Jr. and Rebecca Barney, and her brother, Winfield Barney III. She is survived by her husband, David Donohue, and daughter, Sarah Donohue (Joseph Harris). A memorial service will be held at St. Bede’s Episcopal Church on November 22nd at 10 am, with a reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Bede’s Episcopal Church or to the Food Depot.
