It is with heavy hearts that the family of Richard Vigil announces his passing on December 10, 2024, at the age of 86.
Richard was born in October of 1937, to Susan Mossman and Filomeno Vigil Sr. in Taos New Mexico. He was the oldest of nine children (five boys and four girls). He was the father of 5 children, 3 boys and 2 girls, Joseph, Richard Jr. Tony, Valery, and Susie.
Richard spent most of his life in Taos where he worked in the construction industry as a carpenter and plasterer. Later in life he worked at the information desk at the Taos County Courthouse and was a maintenance worker at the Taos Wal-Mart.
His family describes him as a passionate fisherman who ceased the opportunity to fish as often as he could. With the passion for fishing, he became an incredible fly-tier. Richard was multifaceted in many aspects of his life. He had an incredible talent for crocheting. He even crocheted a bed spread for Taos’s well-renowned artist R.C. Gorman. Richard loved music. He was well known for his love of Rancheros and Oldies. He had a beautiful voice and loved to sing when he wasn’t singing, he was playing his harmonica. He was an artist in true fashion, with artistic skills that also drove him to be a pencil artist and to draw beautiful illustrations.
The family and the Taos community will miss Richard.
