Richard Craig Anderson died December 11, 2013. He was born in Chicago, Illinois on August 31, 1925 to Roy T. Anderson and Helen McClintock Anderson. Richard grew upin Winnetka, Illinois. During World War II, he served with the American Field Services. He attended Purdue University, receiving a Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics in 1949. Upon graduation, he came to Los Alamos to work at the Lab. He met Margaret Fellows in Los Alamos and they were married June 19, 1954. Except for four years in Virginia, Richard spent his entire adult life in Los Alamos. He was employed at LANL until his retirement in 1986.
Richard enjoyed the outdoors, traveling, history, and foreign languages. After
retirement, he volunteered at Bandelier and the Los Alamos Historical Society. He also assisted senior citizens with their taxes and their transportation needs. He was active in the United Church where he served in various capacities over the years.
Richard was predeceased by his parents, his wife, Margaret Anderson, his brother Roy T. Anderson of Pretty Lake, WI, and his sister, Mary Esparza of Lompoc, CA. He is survived by his three children: Carolyn Fink (husband Dan) of Sandy, OR, Edith Wilcox (husband Michael) of Olsburg, KS, and Stephen Anderson (wife Nancy) of Rio Rancho,NM. There are 9 grandchildren: Heather Zook (husband Andy), Nathan Fink (wife Rebecca), Allison, Rachel, Joshua, Samuel, and Grace Wilcox, and Colter and Logan
Anderson.
A Memorial Service was held at the United Church of Los Alamos on Saturday, December 21, 2013. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate contributions to the United Church of Los Alamos Endowment Fund or The Friends of Bandelier.
