Richard was born on May 14, 1970 to Frank and Marie Maestas in Santa Fe New Mexico. As a child, Richard was very charismatic and enjoyed everything outdoors with his father and uncles. Him and his mother shared a love that was well known by everyone around him. Richard was musically talented which started at the young age of 8 with the eight northern pueblos agency band where he participated in the cherry blossom parade in Washington DC playing the trumpet. As an adult, he became the lead singer in Heritage and Tequila Rain, both local bands in the community. Richard studied under Mark Anders as his taekwondo instructor from the age of 11-14 achieving his black belt. He, along with his sister Patricia mentored students in the art thereafter.

He graduated from Santa Fe Indian School in 1988. He then enlisted in the Marine Core. Upon his discharge from the Marines, he started his venture as a salesman entrepreneur. Which ultimately resulted in opening his own business at the young age of 29. Grand Homes was opened in 1999 and became very successful almost immediately. His company sold the most homes in the southwest region of the country within the first two years of opening.

Richard was a true believer in his lord and savior Jesus Christ. He loved to attend bible studies and traveled with his bible everywhere he went. He enjoyed studying scriptures with his favorites being:

John 3:16 For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.

Ephesians 6:10-12 Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. 11 Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes. 12 For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.

Richard had a strong connection to the homeless and less fortunate. He would often give rides and house people in need. He showed compassion to all walks of life no matter their path. Richard was compassionate to animals. He loved his pets dearly, especially his dog Budzee.
