Rita Granillo, at the age of 87, joined her husband, parents, and siblings, at the gates of heaven on the morning of November 1, 2020, from injuries incurred by a stroke. She was surrounded by family, unconditional love, and a strong faith in God during her last days.
Born in Mexico on May 29, 1933 to Salvador and Reyes Chacon, Rita was the eldest of nine children. She met her future husband at a dance in Zaragosa, Ciudad Juarez, Mexico and later relocated to El Paso after the two were married. In 1960, Rita and her family temporarily moved from El Paso to Santa Fe, where her husband had promising short-term work. Rita immediately fell in love with Santa Fe and never looked back; now several generations of the family continue to reside in Santa Fe.
Rita’s home was the heart of family coming in and out; she would spend hours cooking and making tortillas for those she loved. In the 80s and 90s, she ran a baby-sitting service out of her home and affectionately became known as “Grandma Rita” to the many generations of children she cared for and to those who loved her.
She will be lovingly remembered by her children: Annie, Jose Luis (Shirley), Edi (Roland), Annette (Ray), Kayo; grandchildren: Jesus, Ivan, John Paul (Gina), Francisco (Jacinta), Kiki, and Joseph (Stephanie); siblings: Hermila Zuniga, Vincente Chacon, Esperanza Lujan, Salvador Chacon, Estolia Miranda, Rosa Elvia Chacon; as well as 8 great-grandchildren.
Rita was predeceased by her loving husband of 48 years, Jesus (Chope) Granillo; son-in-law, Juan Robles; brothers: Eleno and Jaime Chacon; and her parents: Salvador and Reyes Chacon.
Please join us celebrating her life Monday morning November 9, 2020 at 10:00 a.m., beginning with a rosary and immediately followed by funeral services at Rivera Family Funeral Home. The burial will follow at Rosario Cemetery.
The family would also like to thank Del Corazon Hospice for their loving care of Rita.
