Robert (Bob) Regan

1944 — March 10, 2023

Robert (Bob) Charles Regan, passed away peacefully from Parkinson's Disease on March 10, 2023 at the age of 78. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, uncle, and friend who will be fondly remembered for his warm heart, sense of humor, love for family, golden retrievers, unwavering loyalty to his favorite sport teams, and pride in his Irish heritage. May he rest in peace.

Bob was born on June 16, 1944, in Rockfalls, Illinois, to Charles and Alvina Regan. He learned the value of hard work and developed a passion for the outdoors and animals while growing up on the family farm. He attended Newman Central Catholic High School, where he excelled on the football, basketball, and track teams. After graduation, Bob served honorably in Vietnam as a member of the U.S. Army.

Bob pursued a career as an ironworker after his military service and worked for Ironworkers Union Local #498 out of Rockford, Illinois. He was highly respected by his peers and affectionately known as "Pres." Bob's dedication to the Ironworkers Union will always be remembered, and his legacy will continue to inspire future generations of ironworkers.

Bob was married twice, first to Lyn McNamara, with whom he had four children, and later to Ellen Gustafson. In his retirement, Bob and Ellen enjoyed road trips throughout the Southwest, exploring the great outdoors with their dogs by their side.

He held a deep and profound affection for his grandchildren. Being a part of their lives brought Bob immense joy. He cherished hearing about their passions and adventures and took great pride in their accomplishments and promising futures. 

In his free time, Bob was an avid fan of the Chicago Bears, Chicago Bulls, Chicago Cubs, and Notre Dame football. He frequently attended games and could often be seen wearing apparel that displayed his support for his beloved teams.  

Bob is survived by his beloved wife Ellen, his first wife Lyn Olsen, his children Rori Regan-Buckner, former son-in-law Shawn Buckner, Ryan (Jennifer) Regan, Robb (Jossianne) Regan, Mark (Deb) Gustafson, Stacy (Geno) Abbott, his siblings Ann Hendricksen and Joan Weber, his grandchildren Garrett Buckner, Gannon Buckner, Payton Regan, Averi Regan, Santiago Regan, Brianna Regan, and Aubrie Abbot, as well as many cherished nieces, nephews, and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Alvina, his brother Thomas, and his daughter Rebecca.

Bob will be deeply missed, and his memory will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.

A celebration of Bob's life will take place Friday, August 4, 2023 from 3:00-7:00 pm at Lockwood Park, 5201 Safford Road, Rockford, IL 61101.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Stray Hearts Taos Animal Shelter and Disabled American Veterans.
