Roberto Bustamante

July 10, 1938 — May 27, 2022

Roberto Belarminio Bustamante, 83, a resident of Santa Fe, New Mexico, passed away on May 27, 2022 from a lengthy illness. He was born on July 10, 1938 in San Miguel Del Vado, New Mexico to Rebecca (Serna) Bustamante and Secundino Bustamante. Roberto was married to Tommie O. Bustamante on November 21, 1959. 

He was preceded in death by Secundino and Rebecca Bustamante, in laws; Adolfo and Petrita Ortiz, infant daughter; Shirley Yvonne Bustamante, brothers; Jose Bustamante (Rose), Benito Bustamante (Pauly), Peter B. Quintana, sisters; Mary Alice (Nina) Bustamante, Mary Ann Bustamante, great grandson; Evander Dean Aarons, son in laws; Michael Ortiz, David Maez, and numerous brothers and sister in laws and nephews. 

Roberto is survived by his wife; Tommie O. Bustamante, children; Loretta Maez, Lorella Norris (James), Robert Bustamante (Jackie), Veronica Bustamante, Patricia Lovato (Joseph),  grandchildren; Gerald Robert Ortiz (Amber), Michael Ortiz (Sarah), Cassaundra Bustamante-Navarro (Ronnie), Ryan Bustamante (Ashlie), Hilario Maez, Sherriann Maez, Isaiah Bustamante (Karly), Rebecca Quintana (Isaiah), Stephanie Portillo (Ian), great-grandchildren; Gerald Anthony Ortiz, III, Enriquez Ortiz, Ezekiel Maez, Penelope Ortiz, Marialys Navarro, Julian Ortiz, Soraya Maez, Audrina Bustamante, Rowan Bustamante, Axton Bustamante and expected great-granddaughter, Noa Bustamante, great, great grandchildren; Addilyn and Robert Ortiz, sister in laws; Elisia Bustamante, Ida Guppy, Lucille Quintana, brothers in laws; Manuel Ortiz (Betty) and Rudy Ortiz (Betty). He is also survived by numerous godchildren and many friends. 

Robert served in the United States Air Force from January 17, 1956 through March 17, 1959. He retired from the Santa Fe National Cemetery after 35 years of service, where he climbed to the position of Foreman. He also retired from Communico as a maintenance worker at the age of 80 in 2020. He served as the Mayordomo of the Acequias of San Miguel del Vado. He was a lifetime rancher along with his brothers. He enjoyed hunting, camping, gardening, music and dancing (especially the jitterbug), sports, game shows, Spanish novellas, going to the casino, and being a jokester. 

A rosary will be held on Sunday, June 12, 2022 at 7:30 p.m. at St. Anne Catholic Parish, 511 Alicia Street, Santa Fe, New Mexico 87501. A funeral mass will be held on Monday, June 13, 2022 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Anne Catholic Parish, 511 Alicia Street, Santa Fe, New Mexico 87501. Interment will take place immediately after at Santa Fe National Cemetery. 

Pallbearers are Gerald Robert Ortiz, Michael Ortiz, Ryan Bustamante, Hilario Maez, Isaiah Bustamante and Ralph Bustamante.

Honorary Pallbearers will be the remaining grandchildren, great grandchildren and great greatgrandchildren. 

The family would like to thank all the medical/nursing staff from Christus St. Vincent Hospital who was entrusted with our father’s care, UNM Surgical Specialties, UNM Cancer Center, UNM Palliative Care, UNM Speech Pathology and UNM Cardiology Department. 

The family would also like to thank the many family, friends and neighbors for all of their continued support and prayers. A special thank you goes to Father Larry Brito who came out at 4:00 a.m. to administer the last rites to our father, prayers and for the beautiful mass celebration that will comfort our family tremendously.
