In the early afternoon of March 12, 2018, heaven gained a new angel to play his guitar and sing his special corridas to our Lord Jesus. It is with great sadness, that the family of Robert (Bob) Leroy Sandoval, announces the passing into his new life, free from pain, and together, once again with his family members that passed before him. Those waiting to greet him were his parents, Juan and Dominga (Montoya) Sandoval, sisters Jane Maestas, Mary Maestas, Laura Pacheco, and Eleanor Sandoval, brothers, John, Joe and Ernest Sandoval and father in law, Juan B. Romero. Survived by his beloved wife, Judy Sandoval, special daughter Felicia, step children, Wanda and Albert Gurule Jr. and many grandchildren, sister, Susan Baca, brothers, David (Mimi) Sandoval, Eddie Sandoval, and Lilo (Christine) Sandoval, mother in law, Edulia Romero, uncles, aunts, and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Bob was born December 21, 1946 and raised in Guadalupita, NM. He was a Vietnam Era Veteran, serving in the US Army, out of high school. To know Bob was to know his love of family, his country, his faith in God and the land he was raised on, as well as his love of animals, especially his many cats. Those that knew Bob knew of his strength of heart, his biting sense of humor, his endearing bossiness and his die hard love of music, and, of course, his true love of family. Bob retired from the NM Highway Department and Angel Fire Resort. His greatest passion was playing in his family band, El Grupo Sandoval and performing all over New Mexico and Colorado. Writing and arranging music were his love and passing on his music to others through his many recordings and teaching youngsters made him happy, known to his family as the Mayor of “Sandoville”, he delighted in family gatherings and reunions. He loved to supervise all he was involved in and is probably planning the next reunion with all his loved ones that passed before him.
Services will be held on Friday, March 23, 2018, with Rosary at 9 AM and Holy Mass at 10 AM at St. Gertrude’s Catholic Church in Mora, NM. Interment to follow at Guadalupita Cemetery in Guadalupita, NM.
