Ronald Davis

d. October 26, 2008

Ronald W. Davis, 69, passed away early Sunday, October 26, 2008 at his Santa Fe home following a short illness. Born in southwestern Montana into a family with mining and ranching backgrounds, Ron moved around western Montana until 1947 when his father moved them all to Cleveland, Ohio. There, while attending high school he was able to enroll in weekend classes in design at the Cleveland Institute of Art. Upon graduation, he entered the military service where he continued to draw and became interested in graphic arts. Following his discharge he returned to Cleveland where he studied commercial art and design at the Cooper School of Art. Eventually the desire to pursue more serious painting prompted him to move to San Francisco where he enrolled in the San Francisco Art Institute and then he realized his first real taste of working full time in the fine arts. Economic demands forced him to cut his studies short and seek employment in advertising where he remained for the 35 years. He realized his passion for art remained as a dim but persistent flame. That flame was finally rekindled after a long stretch on the road where, despite many difficulties, he realized that painting for him was the only pursuit he could seriously consider devoting the rest of his life to. His current work is a vivid affirmation of that realization. Ron leaves behind his daughter, Lauren Davis of Columbia Station, OH, and his granddaughter, Allison Dickie; his brother, Gary Davis and wife Norma of Manchester, NJ; his sisters, Nancy Johnson of Hanes, Alaska and Christine Davis and husband Ron Sering of Howard, CO; along with several nieces, nephews, and other relatives. Per Ron's wishes, cremation has taken place and inurnment will take place in Columbia Station, Ohio.` The Rivera Family of Santa Fe Funeral Options 417 East Rodeo Road Santa Fe, NM 505-989-7032 santafefuneraloption.com
