Rosalie Talbott

Rosalie Virginia Talbott-Born June 9, 1918. Deceased August 29, 2007. Born in Oklahoma City, OK June 9, 1918, Rosalie moved with her parents, Emma and Raymond Talbott to Tulsa, Ok in 1923. At age six, she was chosen to study piano at the University of Tulsa with teacher, Helen C. Ringo. With a dedication of spirit and exceptional talent, Rosalie was accepted to New York's prestigious Julliard School of Music in 1940. She shared her amazing talent in a number of venues while living in New York, including an acclaimed Town Hall debut. Upon returning to Tulsa in 1948, Rosalie opened a piano studio, hoping to nurture young talent and foster a love of the piano, classical music and continued to concretize. In 1954, Rosalie originated the young Artists Auditions with the Tulsa Philharmonic Society. Also, during the same year, she founded Concertime, now known as Chamber Music Tulsa, which provided the intimate setting for which chamber music requires. Rosalie remained as a member of the Chamber Music Tulsa's board and Executive Director until her move to Taos, NM in 1969. Rosalie co-founded the Tulsa Civic Ballet with her close friends, Roman Jasinski and Moscelyne Larkin in 1955. Throughout her life and career, Rosalie has served as a member of the National Committee for the Musical Arts, Inc., in New York City; as President and Chairman of the Board., Tulsa Accredited Music Teacher's Association, and was accredited by the National organization; was a member of the first Board of Directors, Women's Association of the Tulsa Philharmonic Society; Secretary and board member, Tulsa Civic ballet; member of Sigma Alpha lota, Hyechka Club, Piano Study Club and Julliard School of Music Alumni Association. It was said that when Rosalie left Tulsa in 1969 for her adopted home in Taos, NM, she left behind her home city with a "distinctly improved cultural climate". In Taos, she continued to concretize and serve on boards of both musical and art associations. She enjoyed a "second" career as assistant to the late renowned artist, R.C. Gorman. When Rosalie had "spare" time, she loved to fish. A drive anywhere in her beloved mountains always refreshed her spirit. She loved playing tour guide for visiting friends or improvising a "concert" to the delight of guests at her home. She was the embodiment of warmth, generosity and loving friendship to all who knew her. A friend of Rosalie's was always a close friend. Rosalie is survived by her beloved cousin, Annalee Veach of Taos, NM. She is also survived by dearest friends Mary Harvey of Taos, NM and Sallie Kaho of Freeport, FL.
