Rose L. Martinez

Rose L. Martinez passed away peacefully, at home, surrounded by her family, on Saturday, December 11, 2010. During her 100 years of boundless energy, loving spirit and generosity, she had opened her heart and home to many family and friends. She was raised in Chamisal, New Mexico by her parents, Matilde Rodriguez Lovato and Nemecio Lovato. She was preceded in death by her loving and endearing husband, Ernest Jose Martinez. They were married on March 13, 1934 for a wonderful 65 years. Together they had three daughters, Connie Garcia (Bernabe Jr.), Carmen Lieurance (Stephen) and Rosita Trujillo (Philip). She graduated from Highlands University in 1932 with a certificate in both accounting and teaching. She practiced her accounting profession for 67 years. Her community involvement included volunteering for 25 years with the Taos County March of Dimes, 50 years with the Taos Garden Club, many years as a member of the Taos Art Association, the Womens Division of the Chamber of Commerce, Taos Municipal School Parent Teacher Association (TP/A) and Taos Hospital auxiliary. She was blessed with 7 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren and 4 great-great grandchildren. She leaves behind her beloved dog, Petunia, of 12 years. In lieu of flowers, she wishes that donations be made to the Taos Public Library. Plans for a memorial are pending.
