Rosenda "Rose" Rivera

January 3, 1916 — February 4, 2019

Rosenda (Rose) Rivera aged 103, passed away peacefully on February 4, 2019, in Santa Fe, New Mexico where she lived for the past two years with her daughter, Marie and son-in-law Emilio Sanchez. Rosenda was born on January 3, 1916, in Amalia, New Mexico to the late Adolpho Gallegos and Beatrice (Cardenas) Gallegos. She married Ambrocio Rivera, son of Julian and Miquelita (Arellano) Rivera from Amalia, on November 30, 1935, and together they had six children. Rosenda is preceded in death by her husband Ambrocio Rivera, parents, Adolpho and Beatrice Gallegos, brothers Celestino, Presentación (Chon), Adolpho, Roberto, Rodolfo (Rudy), and sisters Aurela and Ruby. She is survived by her daughters, Cerbie (late Hugh), Lorraine (Daniel), Marie (Emilio), and sons, Floyd (Barbara), Eleuto (Rita) and Larry (Cindy) and a very special grandson whom she considered a son, Adam (Toni). She leaves behind 14 grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren and 9 great, great grandchildren, and numerous nephews and nieces. Rosenda was a lifelong resident of Amalia, a community she loved. She leaves great memories for all who knew her. Her favorite pastime was going to the Anciano Center where she socialized and volunteered on a daily basis. She was an inspiration to all who knew her and will be greatly missed. A special thanks to the staff at Heritage Home Health Care (Hospice) and Deacon Jerry Reynolds in Santa Fe for the wonderful and loving care that our mother received during the end of her life. Thank you Yolanda Trujillo, BCBS case worker from Mora, for the kindness you showed our mother over the years. Thanks to the Staff at Options Home Health care for all that you did for her, special thanks to Christina Hernandez her health home provider for the past two years. A special thanks to Deacon Leroy Lucero from Costilla for bringing her communion when she visited her home in Amalia. We, the Rivera family, are grateful to all who contributed to her well-being. A rosary will be recited at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 16, 2019 with a funeral mass to follow at the Sangre de Cristo Catholic Church in San Luis, Colorado. Interment of the ashes will be scheduled for a later date.
